Why Sovereign supports the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health

Financial Services and sport don’t initially appear to be the most obvious of training partners, but when both are viewed from the level of planning required to achieve the best possible performance, the fit is hand in glove.

In late 2002, Sovereign was delighted to confirm its role as naming rights sponsor for the facility that houses some of the country’s leading sports organisations and world class training facilities.

Sovereign’s long term commitment to the Millennium Institute is largely due to the philosophies we share.  Health insurance is about living life to its fullest potential.  Investments are about managing someone’s dreams.  Life insurance is about valuing your life, and that of your family, and a home loan is about a home, not just a building.  So it makes sense for Sovereign to support the facility that is the home to people who value their fitness.

AUT University Partnership

As a leader in sport science and management education, AUT University is the Millennium Institute’s principal tertiary education and applied sport science services and research partner.

AUT has a comprehensive range of sport science support services and applied research projects, as well as education and career opportunities for Millennium Institute athletes.

As part of the School of Community Health and Sports Studies, research and postgraduate level workshops are held on-site, integrating the academic with the practical in a truly applied situation.

AUT offers a wide range of University courses, with one of its flagships, the School of Community Health and Sport Studies, based at the University’s Akoranga campus, just 10 minutes drive from the Millennium Institute.  The Akoranga campus is a state of the art training and education facility, with enhanced services in sport performance testing, athlete training and education.

AUT has engaged some of New Zealand’s leading sport and health academics who interact with the Millennium Institute's sport and health professionals and contribute to our programmes.

New Zealand Academy of Sport North Island - Consortium Partner

Primarily based at the Millennium Institute, the New Zealand Academy of Sport North Island (NZASNI) incorporates four stakeholder organisations combining to form one team devoted to sporting excellence.  The Millennium Institute is a part of the NZASNI network as a consortium partner, helping to deliver high performance sport services for New Zealand's elite athletes and coaches. This includes sports science, sports medicine, Athlete Career and Education (ACE) and Coach support and scholarships.

NZASNI's partners believe that high performance sports achievement is the result of a unified team approach. The Academy in the northern region offers world-class support services to athletes and coaches, coupled with the established facilities in Auckland and Hamilton.  The NZASNI team provides support for more than 500 athletes and coaches from 20 different sporting codes.
