Our People
To drive sports performance the
Millennium Institute has employed leading national
and international coaches in the foundation sports of Athletics,
Swimming, Waterpolo and Weightlifting. Through the Millennium Institute’s
partnerships, athletes and coaches have access to leading sport science
and medicine specialists at the Institute based HealthZone and the Auckland
University of Technology (AUT).
CEO Mike Stanley, a former world champion rower with sports and corporate management experience, works with a small management
team skilled in sports and facility management.

Athletics
Track & Sprints
Marlon Gevaert
With a
history of teaching, coaching, studying and competing, Marlon is a highly
qualified sprints coach. Prior to moving to New Zealand in 2005, Marlon
was involved with the Belgian Olympic programme assisting with the women’s
4 x 100 relay track team coaching and managing their weight training, as
well as being a national 100m champion himself.
Track Distance
Chris Pilone
Specialising in middle and long distance running, Chris coaches athletes who have represented
New Zealand at Olympic and Commonwealth Games, World Cross Country Championships,
World Half Marathon Championships, World Junior Athletic Championships,
World Triathlon Championships and World Duathlon Championships. Chris
coached Hamish Carter to Triathlon Olympic Gold in Athens 2004.
Field Jumps and Sprints
Elena Vinogradova
Coach for 15 years and a specialist in sprints, pole vault and triple jump.
Before coming to New Zealand Elena was an athletics coach for the Moscow
Regional Athletics Federation.
Currently she is
Athletics New Zealand’s manager of Jump events as well as the Commonwealth
Games and World Championship Team Coach.

Olympic and World Championship Coach and Former National Youth Coach
for Swimming New Zealand
Former Olympic and Commonwealth medallist.
NZ Open Long Course Coach of the Year 2002-03 (jointly with fellow Club
coach Igor Polianski.

Patria Hume:
PhD (Otago), MSc(Hons) (Auckland), BSc (Auckland),
PGCert (USA), ISAK 3, NZG Coaching Diploma. Internationally recognised
in the areas of sport injury biomechanics, sports biomechanics, sport
injury prevention and epidemiology, and sport anthropometry.
Grant Schofield:
PhD, BSc(Hons), Registered Psychologist. Director
of the Human Population Laboratory at AUT. Key expertise in sport and
exercise psychology, health and wellness, behavioral epidemiology techniques
and athlete well being.
Will Hopkins:
PhD. Chair, Exercise Science. Expertise in competitive
sport performance, exercise physiology, research design and analysis.
Twice winner of the Sport Science NZ best sport science research article
and in 1999 was a finalist for the best original research presentation
at the IOC Congress on Sport Science.
