Athletics Track & Stadium

The Rekortan synthetic athletics track was first built on site by the then North Shore Bays Athletics Club in 1983. Under the Club’s operation it has been the venue for all of New Zealand’s major track & field championship events.

Most significantly, it has been the venue for the highly successful Robin Tait Classic Meetings, New Zealand’s largest annual international meet. Since 1984 the Robin Tait Classic has attracted some of the world’s leading athletes including Carl Lewis, Cathy Freeman, Jan Zelezny, Steve Backley and Donovan Bailey with two world records being set during competition to Steve Backley and Emma George.

The track is now an integral component of the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health.
